The Montecito Trails Foundation March 2019 Newsletter brought welcome news to our community. The foundation is pleased with the incredible regrowth that the heavy rains have brought to the Thomas Fire burn and debris flow areas. They have begun brushing the community trails and will soon address the extreme creek crossings in some areas as soon as the April showers subside.

According to the newsletter, “Positive developments since February have been the re-opening of West Fork Cold Spring from the Gibraltar Trailhead and improvements to Romero. A safety bypass trail was put in around the slide with the cooperation of the Forest Service, City, and County of Santa Barbara implemented for us by Los Padres Forest Association and Doug Hulett of Trailscape, Inc.  The rocks of Romero were single-handedly wrangled by Dave Everrett and his volunteers. A very impressive feat. Both trails are high priorities for us, with longer-term solutions and improvements hopefully coming soon.”

The foundation hosts weekly hikes every Wednesday at 8:30 am. This Wednesday, you’re invited to join the community at the Romero trailhead for a fun hike.
